Are some parts of the Bible more important, or "more inspired" than others? Some choose to believe only the Old Testament. Others believe only the New Testament and consider the Old Testament as unimportant or out-of-date. But, a reading of the New Testament reveals repeated references to the Old Testament. And the Old Testament prophecies of the very things that occur in the New Testament. The two are inseparably intertwined. The following texts teach that ALL of the Bible is reliable, inspired and that we should believe it, including the Old and New Testaments. All was inspired by the same God. |
| All
scripture is inspired. "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:" |
2 Tim. 3:16 | ||
| It
is equally important to obey the Old Testament prophets
and the New Testament Apostles. "That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:" |
2 Peter 3:2 | ||
| The
message of the Prophets in the Old Testament was
also about Jesus. "And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began." |
Acts 3:20-21 | ||
| Jesus
didn't try to change what Moses wrote. He fulfilled
the prophecies in Moses' writings. "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." |
Matthew 5:17-18 | ||
|
If
you don't believe what Moses wrote, you won't
believe what Christ said. |
John 5:45-47 | ||
| Jesus
believed that the words in the Law of Moses, the
Prophets and the Psalms would come true. "And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures," |
Luke 24:44-45 | ||
| Inspiration
received from God the Father, Jesus or the Holy
Spirit will all agree. "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one." |
I John 5:7 | ||
